Is GTA 6 Coming to PC? Release Window, History and What We Know

The hard truth first: GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. On November 19, 2026 it releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar has not announced a PC version in any official communication. But “not announced” is not “never” — and Rockstar’s own history gives PC players a surprisingly predictable roadmap. Here’s the honest picture.

What’s officially confirmed

  • Confirmed platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S — see our release date guide for all key dates
  • PC: not announced, not denied, not mentioned. Rockstar has said nothing official about a PC version
  • Also absent: Nintendo Switch 2 and last-gen consoles

That silence feels brutal, but it’s identical to how the last two Rockstar launches played out.

The August 27 Extended Look didn’t change it either. Twenty-six minutes of gameplay, a full press tour of Rockstar North — and not one word about PC. The footage was captured on a PlayStation 5, and the only platform performance detail given was that the base PS5 targets 30 fps. If a PC version were close, this was the obvious moment to say so, and Rockstar didn’t.

Rockstar’s PC playbook — the pattern is loud

Rockstar has released a PC version of every major title this century. Just never at launch:

  • GTA 5 — consoles September 2013 → PC April 2015 (~19 months later)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 — consoles October 2018 → PC November 2019 (~13 months later)
  • GTA 4 — consoles April 2008 → PC December 2008 (~8 months later)

The gap isn’t spite — it’s strategy. A console-first launch sells full-priced copies to the biggest install base, then the PC release restarts the sales cycle a year later with a technically superior version (and, in GTA 5’s case, opened the door to a decade of mods that kept the game culturally alive).

The realistic PC window

Apply the pattern to a November 19, 2026 console launch and you get a PC release somewhere between late 2027 and mid 2028 — with the RDR2-style ~13-month gap pointing at holiday 2027 as the optimistic case.

To be crystal clear: that’s informed speculation, not an announcement. Rockstar has confirmed nothing. But the same math predicted RDR2’s PC release almost to the quarter.

Will it be on Steam?

When it comes, almost certainly — eventually. GTA 5 and RDR2 both launched on PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher (and Epic for RDR2) first, with Steam following weeks later. Expect the same dance: Rockstar’s own store first, Steam close behind.

What should PC players do?

Honest options, in order of how much you want to play in November:

  1. Borrow a console. The story is a one-time cultural event; hearing every twist spoiled for a year has a real cost.
  2. Wait it out. The PC version will be the best version — higher framerates, better visuals, and eventually mods. GTA 5 on PC outlived the console versions by years.
  3. Don’t buy a PS5 just for this if you’re patient — the port is coming; Rockstar has never left PC money on the table.

FAQ

Has Rockstar confirmed a GTA 6 PC version? No. As of August 2026 there has been no official announcement of any kind about PC.

When will GTA 6 come to PC? Unannounced. Based on GTA 5 (~19 months) and RDR2 (~13 months), the realistic window is late 2027 to mid 2028.

Why does Rockstar delay PC versions? Console-first launches maximize full-price sales on the biggest platforms, and the later PC release restarts the sales cycle with an upgraded version. It has worked twice; expect it to work a third time.

Will GTA 6 PC support mods? Rockstar has said nothing. GTA 5’s PC modding scene thrived unofficially, and there’s no reason to expect GTA 6’s to be different — but that’s community expectation, not policy.

Could GTA 6 come to PC at launch as a surprise? Nothing is impossible, but with preorders live for months and no PC SKU anywhere, it would break every pattern Rockstar has. Plan around the port coming later.
