GTA 6 Leonida Keys: The Island Chain at the Bottom of the Map
At the southern tip of Leonida, the map dissolves into a chain of islands strung together by a sea-skimming highway: the Leonida Keys, GTA 6’s version of the Florida Keys. Rockstar paints them as boats, bars and old smuggling routes — paradise with a record. Here’s everything confirmed.
What Rockstar has shown
Trailer 2’s most breathtaking driving shot skims the Keys Causeway — an overseas highway hopping island to island with water on both sides. Official artwork adds a lonely lighthouse over the reef and stilt houses standing in open water off the flats, both pinned on our interactive map.
Jason’s home turf
Per Rockstar’s official character material, Jason Duval lives the quiet Keys life — odd jobs, a roadside-motel world, trying to stay out of trouble. His landlord and mentor figure is Brian Heder, a legendary drug runner from the Keys’ golden smuggling era, now retired to a boat, a bar tab and connections everywhere. If the Keys have a criminal history, Brian is that history.
That makes the Keys the likely opening chapter of the Jason and Lucia story — the calm before Vice City pulls them in.
The vibe: paradise with rust on it
Where Vice City is neon and ambition, the Keys are sun-bleached and slow: marinas full of boats that have seen things, dive bars, motels renting by the week. Smuggling isn’t a storyline here so much as the region’s geology — it’s in everything.
What we expect (not confirmed)
- Boat gameplay as a core loop — an island chain demands it; Rockstar hasn’t detailed water mechanics
- Diving/underwater content — GTA 5 had it; a reef setting begs for it
- Key-by-key names — individual islands are unnamed so far
FAQ
Are the Leonida Keys based on the Florida Keys? Directly — down to the overseas causeway, which mirrors the real Overseas Highway to Key West.
Is this where Jason lives? Rockstar’s official material describes Jason living the quiet life in the Keys when the story begins.
How big are the Keys? Unknown. In our map size comparison, the Keys are one reason Leonida’s estimated landmass understates its play space — a lot of this region is water.
Where can I see the confirmed Keys locations? The causeway, lighthouse, stilt houses, marina and motel country are all pinned on our interactive Leonida map.
